College of Fellows Events Overview

DSPT College of Fellows is made up of lay Catholics of eminence in their fields who offer analyses of contemporary issues to open a conversation that engages contemporary scholarship and culture with the wisdom of tradition. By reflecting upon the Catholic faith in the light of their secular vocations, DSPT Fellows contribute to the Church's understanding of her mission to the world and help shape the education of leaders for the Church and the academy. The presentations are meant to instigate a discussion among the faculty, the students and the broader interested public. The presentations are free and open to all.

2012 Convocation of the College of Fellows

DSPT Fellows are men and women of eminence in diverse fields who have joined DSPT to engage society in a fruitfull dialogue about Faith and culture. As part of their initial projects, each of the Fellows will deliver a presentation on Catholic imagination in the light of their vocation and life's work in relationship to the contemporary culture.

Internal All-School Discussion on the Lineamenta for the Synod on the New Evangelization

DSPT will hold an all-school discussion of the Lineamenta (the preparatory documents) for the Synod on the New Evangelization for the Transmission of Christian Faith that Pope Benedict XVI has announced for October 2012. This event is open to DSPT faculty, Fellows, students, staff and alumni only.

Work as Sacramental: The Mysterious Dynamics of Personal Vocation

Fr. Michael Sweeney, OP, will introduce the topic of Vocation and Work, and two presentations by DSPT Fellows will follow: Michael Naughton "Beyond Career to Calling: Understanding Work as a Vocation within the Catholic Social Tradition", and André Delbecq "Open to Possibilities: Understanding How “Calling Unfolds Within the “Now” of Business Life".

2011 Convocation of the College of Fellows

His Eminence James Francis Cardinal Stafford, Gil Baile, and Ron Hanson briefly highlighted certain major challenges within their field of professional endeavor, indicating how the gift of a Catholic worldview and imagination aids them in addressing these challenges, and suggest dimensions where current Catholic scholarship, teaching, and preaching could provide support and clarification.
