Student Life

ASDSPT Spring Retreat with Fr. Jude Eli, OP

There is always something going on at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (DSPT). Located in the heart of the academic hub of the San Francisco Bay Area, our school sits where cultures meet and life is celebrated. Every month a variety of events from student-run philosophy and theology forums to movie & game nights are organized by students and DSPT's Student Council as a part of of our "We're Still Working on a Clever Name Thursday Nights Student Nights." Coming from a wide variety of religious and cultural backgrounds, they are joined by the local community and by students from the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) and the University of California, Berkeley. Young and old, women and men come together here to understand traditional thought and make it relevant to the concerns of contemporary society all while aiming to create and fun and engaging community experience.

Information about some of the student-run groups and activities:

For information concerning the nights we do game nights, which include everything from cards to board games to video games (rock band! w00t!), please consult our calender.

Students also have the ability to organize groups around their needs and interests. In the past, such groups have included poetry readings, a literature and theology discussion group, an academic group for students interested in continuing on for doctoral work, and the Daughters of Mary (a spirituality and prayer group targeted to lay women). For information about using the DSPT campus for student-run meetings and events, see our Facilities Use information.

Information about the possibilities for exploring the Bay:

In addition to the copious opportunities around the Bay, don't forget that the wine country and beaches are easy day trips, as well as the nearby Lake Tahoe, Monterey and Yosemite for weekend getaways. Whatever the interest -- inside the walls of culture, or out in nature-- it can be found in or around the DSPT. See our Bay Area Resources page for more some helpful links for navigating!
