The Art and Religion concentration can be tailored to the interests of the artist, the student of theology, or both. While allowing the student to develop a particular area of specialization, it also introduces you to the broad patterns of faith, spirituality and culture that shape artistic expression. Students focus on a variety of media, particularly the visual arts, aesthetics and film in their contemporary as well as historic expressions. In addition to the DSPT and GTU courses, students can do coursework in the arts at the University of California at Berkeley while enjoying access to the cultural resources of the San Francisco Bay Area. Studies can be supplemented by the resources of the Santa Fe Institute in Berkeley. This center for Catholic faith and culture houses a special library in the arts and hosts occasional liturgies and events throughout the year.
