What does it mean to be immaterial?

The philosophical debate about the existence of non-physical or immaterial substances is seemingly endless. But it is not so easy to say what exactly it would mean for something to be “immaterial.” I propose a concept of immateriality, drawn from Aquinas's philosophy of mind.
