Disabilities & Accommodations

Policies and processes for accommodations

The DSPT Faculty and Administration believe in equitable student access to educational opportunities, particularly concerning a student's ability to fulfill degree and certificate course and program requirements. Accommodations are not intended to give students with disabilities an unfair advantage, but to remove barriers that prevent students from learning and from demonstrating what they have learned in the context of their formal degree or certificate program.

The Academic Dean serves as DSPT Disabilities Resource Officer (DRO) and will facilitate accommodations and support for students with disabilities on an individual, case-by-case basis, to ensure equal access to DSPT's academic programs and services. The DRO works with students in an individualized and interactive process that requires engagement from both the DRO and the student.

DSPT will do its best to provide the student with his/her preferred accommodations, provided
the requested accommodation is reasonable. Accommodations that are considered
“unreasonable” include:

1. Accommodations that would fundamentally alter the nature of a program.
2. Accommodations which lower or substantially modify academic or program standards.
3. Accommodations that would impose undue financial or administrative burden.
4. Accommodations that would pose an appreciable threat to personal or public safety.

For more information on how to request accommodations, please contact the Academic Dean.
