Dominican Colloquium In Berkeley
DSPT was chosen by the Master of the Dominican Order to host this international colloquium to bring our core strength in integrating philosophy and theology to academia and to the public. This colloquium brings together world-renowned philosophers and theologians to examine contemporary philosophical work and its implications for theology.
Reaching a wider audience - the papers from the 2017 Dominican Colloquium in Berkeley were published in the Spring 2019 issue of Nova et Vetera (vol 17 no 2)
Past Colloquia
Dominican Colloquium 2017 - Person, Soul and Consciousness
Looking at questions related to Person, Soul and Consciousness from theological and philosophical perspectives.
This colloquium, part of an ongoing triennial series on the intersection between philosophy and theology, sought to continue the venerable Dominican tradition of bringing together philosophers and theologians to explore questions of contemporary importance.
This colloquium’s particular theme was the human person in his or her full intellectual, spiritual, and embodied existence: How do philosophical insights into the human person illumine topics within theology, and how do recent developments in theology present challenges or opportunities for philosophical research into consciousness, person, and the soul?
Dominican Colloquium 2014 - What has Athens to do with Jerusalem?
Focused on the intersection between philosophy and theology, seeking to continue the venerable Dominican tradition of bringing together philosophers and theologians to explore the theological implications of contemporary work in philosophy, as well as philosophical questions that emerge from theological inquiry.
This colloquium, the first in what has been planned to be a triennial series on the intersection between philosophy and theology, sought to continue the venerable Dominican tradition of bringing together philosophers and theologians to explore the theological implications of contemporary work in philosophy, as well as philosophical questions that emerge from theological inquiry.
How can recent developments in Analytic, Phenomenological, Thomist, and other schools of thought give new life to the concerns of theology? What current theological themes present challenges or opportunities for philosophy? The theme of this colloquium was intentionally broad, so as to raise issues for further exploration in the series.
